"Ulysses Portugal 2024
Portuguese Mint
Gonçalo Viana"
"5 EURO"
This commemorative coin is the second in the "Mythological Heroes and Creatures" series and is dedicated to Ulysses, who in Portugal is associated with the legend of the founding of the city of Lisbon (Olisipo) after, at the end of his travels, he sailed beyond the Mediterranean to the mouth of the Tagus River.
Ulysses (or Odysseus in Greek) was a legendary king of Ithaca, a hero of Greek mythology famous for his intelligence, cunning, and perseverance. He is the central figure in Homer's epic poem, the Odyssey, and a key character in the same author's Iliad. The protagonist of Homer's Odyssey, he faced numerous trials on his journey home, including encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, cannibalistic giants, the sorceress Circe, Scylla, and Charybdis. He was also the creator of the Trojan Horse stratagem, decisive in the Trojan War.
A very beautiful coin, minted in 24K gold and weighing half a troy ounce, that combines aesthetics with the logic of investing in precious metals.
Issue Limit: 2000 Proof units
Includes original box and numbered certificate from the Mint of Portugal (INCM - Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda) in Lisbon.
